The Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ.(as revealed to us in science)

This is most likely the least mentioned part of the Christian gospel because it is the least understood. Therefore, now is the time to understand it.
It has been said that the Bible is not a scientific textbook and therefore we must look to science to provide all the answers to all the questions that concern science. The inspiration of the Creator who set all things in motion is not accepted as being scientific enough for the Bible. Thus we are to seek answers from the Bible to questions that science is unable to agree upon and to use science to explains that which we cannot explain by exploring the pages of the Bible. It is in these areas of research that science and the Bible go hand in hand.
One of the most difficult of Christian doctrines to explain is that of the "Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ", having been subject to so many forms of interpretation down through the ages. Can it be that science holds the answer and explains all aspects of this doctrine to satisfy both today's scientific work and the truth contain in the Bible? We shall see.
Before we look at the scientific solution, let us look at the Biblical problems that cause so much consternation among theological circles.
We have the following scriptural concepts:-
a) Since the original non obedience of Adam and Eve regarding eating of the fruit from the tree in the centre of the garden of Eden, all mankind has been left with and uses the concept that the Creator can be disobeyed and this is theologically called the 'original sin' which is handed down to all descendants of the first humans. (Romans 5, verse 12.) "Wherefore by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all men have sinned." It is the disobedience that has separated Adam and Eve (and therefore the rest of us) from a full communion with the Creator but not His love as any parent will know when a child disobeys an instruction it does not cancel the parent's love for the child. It is the denial that one is the child of the parent that stretches that possibility.
b) Jesus Christ was the only begotten Son of God.
(John 3, verse 16.) "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that who ever believes in Him should have everlasting life".
(Philippians 2, verses 5 - 11.) "Let this mind be in you, which also is in Christ Jesus; who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal to God; but made Himself of no reputation and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also has highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name; that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
c) Jesus Christ was without sin. This He had to be in order to be the sinless and perfect sacrifice for the sins of all mankind by taking the death on the cross as His punishment in our place.
(Hebrews 2, v 18)'For in that He Himself has suffered being tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted.'
To be the perfect sacrifice for all mankind, Jesus had to be without sin.
(Leviticus 5, verse 18.) " And he shall bring a ram without blemish out of the flock to the priest, of the value of a guilt offering." Note the symbolism here with Jesus. He come out of the flock (human people) yet was without blemish (sin). His was the sin offering for all.
(Hebrews 4, verse 15) "For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points temped like as we are, yet without sin."
(Hebrews 9, verse 14.) " How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal spirit, offered Himself without spot to God, purge our consciences from dead works to serve the living God?"
(1 Peter 1, verse 18 - 19.) "For as much as you know that you are not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversations received from your fathers; But, with the precious blood of Christ, set a lamb without blemish and spot."
d) The Messiah was to be born of a virgin, surely a sign from the Creator.
(Isaiah 7, verse 14.) "Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign: Behold a virgin shall be with child and give birth to a son and his name shall be Emmanuel."
Jesus was born to a virgin named Mary and in a family whose father was Joseph, a descendant of King David which is why He was born in the city of David, namely Bethlehem. However it was the Holy Spirit of the Godhead that caused Mary to be with child.
(Luke 1, verses 28 - 31.) "And the angel came in unto her and said," Hail, you are highly favoured, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women." And when she saw him she was troubled at what he said and wondered in her mind what sort of greeting this could be. And the Angel said to her," Fear not Mary for you have found favour with God and behold you shall conceive in your womb and bring forth a son and you shall call His name 'Jesus'."
(Luke 1, verse 34 - 35.) "Then Mary said to the angel," How shall this be, since I know no man." (Mary was engaged at the time and in those days such things as abstinence before marriage was the rule). And the angel answered and said to her," The Holy Spirit shall come upon you and the power of the Highest shall over shadow you: therefore the holy child to be born of you shall be called the Son of God.""
( Matthew 1, verses 18 - 25.) Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise. When as His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they had come together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit,. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was thinking to put her away privately. But while he thought of these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "fear not for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she shall bring forth a son and you shall call His name Jesus; for He shall save Hs people from their sins." Now all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by His prophet, saying, "Behold a virgin shall be with child and shall bring forth a son and they shall call His name Emmanuel which being interpreted is, God with us. Then Joseph, being raised from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had told him to do and took unto him his wife and he knew her not until she had had her firstborn son and he called His name Jesus.
Now the most ignored person in this saga is Joseph. What must be understood is that in those days, for a person in the position of Mary to be with child was not the done thing. Therefore Joseph took a lot on trust, or faith if you like, and after Jesus was born, he would father his own children with Mary. The Bible, the only reliable history of this time and the persons mentioned therein, tells us that Mary and Joseph married (not a perpetual virgin then?) and she was the mother of several boys and girls to Joseph.
Now before we go any further, there are some false theologies that must be stopped. There was the nasty theology that the Hold Spirit some how became a man and made love to Mary and because He was a spirit, she was still a virgin. This accounted for the miracles that Jesus performed as He was half God, half Man. For a start Jesus actually performed none of the miracles Himself, they were all done by the same Holy Spirit for He, Jesus, was all man. Then being half Man half God would not have entitled Him to be the sacrifice for all mankind as He had to be all human in the first place.
Next there is the current Roman Catholic false theory that for Jesus to be sinless, then Mary must also have been sinless and forever a virgin and has now, in their eyes at least, been exalted to be a co-redeemer with Jesus. This concept is without any Biblical support whatever, not that that has stopped that church before, but it leads to several problem not addressed by them. Namely for Mary to be sinless, were her parents also sinless, and their parents? Was Mary fathered by the Holy Spirit, the immaculate conception no less?
The interesting thing for non Catholics is that Pope Pius X1, before he was removed as pope at the time of the second world war because of his attachment to the Hitler movement, made the following papal dogma :- " We declare that the most Blessed Virgin Mary in the first moment of her conception, by the unique grace and privilege of God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the saviour of the human race, was preserved intact from all stain of original sin." This is the increasing veneration of Mary up to today when she is equated to Jesus as Co-redeemer of all. Again this is not from the Bible and is a further part of the Roman Catholic changing what the Bible really says so that their false version of Christianity looks real.
(Matthew 12, verses 46- 50.) "While He was yet talking to the people, behold His mother and His brothers and sisters were outside, desiring to speak with Him. Then said one to Him "Behold your mother and your brothers and sisters stand outside, desiring to speak with You. But He answered unto him that told Him," Who are My mother and my brothers and sisters? And He stretched forward His hands towards His disciples and said," Behold, my mother and my brothers and sisters. For whoever shall do the will of My Father who is in heaven, the same is My brother and sister and mother." "
(Luke 4, verse 22). "And all bore Him witness and wondered at the gracious words that came out of His mouth. And they said, "Is this not Joseph's son?""
So the truth is that Mary was a special person chosen to be the mother of Jesus but she was an ordinary human woman with no special characteristics there than that she was to be a good mother to Him.
Realising that for some people this will be a hard nut to crack and swallow, it is never the less the truth and those people have just to get on with the truth.
Now we must move on because the answer will still lie in science which we must investigate to see how such a thing could occur, and it is to the science of genetics that we must turn.
In the agricultural sector animals have offspring roughly once a year. However, when there is a particularly valuable cow, for example, there is a method of inducing more. This is done by taking the egg from the cow every time she ovulates, putting it in a test tube and fertilising it with a bull's sperm and implanting the fertilised egg, now call a zygote (or in the case of a human, an embryo), into the womb of another cow, even one not of the same type. Thus a Hereford cow's zygote implanted into a Jersey cow's womb. The most important point to note is that the calf will be an all Hereford calf, and that none of the Jersey genetic taints will have passed into it for the Jersey cow which is only the surrogate mother. If this were not the case, it would be a totally pointless exercise and waste of time and money. In nature there are virgin births but these are always female.
Now we understand the birth of Jesus as follows
The Holy Spirit came to Mary and implanted into her womb a complete human embryo from God which grew to be Jesus. As He was not genetically related to Mary, Joseph and right back to Adam and Eve, provided He Himself did not commit a sin, He would be sinless.
(John 8, verse 29.) "And He that sent me is always with Me; the Father has not left Me alone; for I always do those things that please Him." (Pity we all can't say the same).
Then Jesus must be a second Adam yet without falling into temptation to sin but did have a belly button.
( 1 Corinthians 15, 21 - 22.) "For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive."
. The concept of a surrogate mother is quite common these days but that was not so until very recently. Mary was the surrogate mother for Jesus. Once you have grasped this understanding, the rest of scripture become crystal clear.
1. Jesus never referred to His human parents as His father or mother, nor His family as being His, as we have already seen. When He was only 12 years old, Jesus was left by His parents, by mistake of course, in Jerusalem. (Luke 2, verses 42 - 46.) And it came to pass that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the middle of the doctors (of religion) , both hearing them and asking them questions. And all that heard Him were astounded at His understanding and answers. And when they (his parents) saw Him, they were amazed; and his mother said to Him, Son, why have you thus dealt with us? behold, your father and I have sought You anxiously. And He said to them, how is it that you have sought me? do you not understand that I must be about My Father's business? (He, the Father, being the chairman of the Godhead board of directors of the Universe remember).
(Luke 11, verses 27 - 28.) And it came to pass, as He spoke these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice and said unto Him," Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts that you have sucked." But He said, " Yes rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God and keep it".
(Mark 6, verse 3.) "Is this not the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James and Joes and of Judas and Simon and are not His sisters with us? And they were offended at Him."
. 2. Jesus referred to John the Baptist thus. ( Matthew 11, verse 11.) "Verily I say unto you, among those born of woman, there is not risen a greater than John the Baptist; notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he." Thus He confirms that He was not of an earthly father and mother as the rest of us are. It cannot be that he was just being humble because He was stoned for saying He was equal with God!
Jesus clearly states that He came down from heaven and is not of the earth as we understand it.
( John 3, verse 13.) "And no man has ascended into heaven, but He that descended from heaven, even the Son of Man which is in heaven."
(John 5, verses 15 - 18.) The man departed and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him whole. And that is why the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath day. But Jesus answered them, "My Father is at work this day and so am I". That is why the Jews sought all the more to kill Him , because not only had He broken the Sabbath but also that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.
(John 8, verses 57 - 59.) Then said the Jews to Him. You are not yet fifty years old and you have seen Abraham? Jesus said to them," Truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am. " Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself, and went out of the temple, going through the middle of them and so passed by.
(John 8, verse 23.) "And He said to them, you are from beneath, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world."
Now one aspect of the birth of Jesus that must be clearly understood. He was totally human, just as Adam was. He did not receive the power to do the miracles until the Holy Spirit came upon Him just after His baptism. He was not indwelt by the Holy spirit from His Mary's womb as was John the Baptist. Jesus was the second Adam.
( Luke 1, verses 13 - 15.) 'But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid. Zechariah, for your prayers have been heard and your wife will bear a son, and you shall call his name John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great before the Lord, and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother's womb"'.
( Matthew 4, verses 16 - 17.) 'And when Jesus was baptised, He went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove on Him and lo, a voice from heaven saying, "This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."
( Mark 5, verses 25 to 30.)'And a certain woman which had an issue of blood twelve years and had suffered many things of many physicians and had spent all that she had and was nothing better but rather grew worse. When she heard of Jesus, came in the crowd behind him and touched his garment for she said to herself, 'If I may touch his clothes, I shall be made whole. And immediately the hemorrhage ceased. And Jesus , perceiving in Himself that power had gone forth from Him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, "Who touched My garments?"
It was the power of the Holy Spirit that Jesus felt move to heal the woman. The manifestation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit are associated with a physical effect on the person through whom the gifts are given where as the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit is not.
Read your Bible carefully and you will see that all the above stand up to the harshest of scrutiny.
One thing that you must realise is this. If Jesus were NOT sinless, all the crucifixion pain and suffering and even the resurrection itself are of no avail for those who claim to be Christians as there is no pure blood for the forgiveness of their sins and that is the whole point of Christianity, is it not? So the SINLESSNESS of Jesus is of the most importance to us who claim Christ as Lord and Saviour.
