Parable of the Day and Night

The Parable of the Sun, Earth and Moon

The Parable of the Sun, Earth and Moon

Once again we look at the world around us, only this time that which occurs every 24 hours , broken into the time of light and that of darkness. Now we shall see the interpretation of the parable before the parable itself.
(Genesis 1, v4 to 6) "And God saw the light and saw that it was good; And God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day and the darkness he called night. And the evening and the morning were the first day."
(Genesis 1, v 16 to 19) "And God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth. And to rule over the day and over the night; and to divide the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning of the fourth day."
Note that the concept of 'ruling' over the day and night by the two great lights. Surely this has more to think about than just what we see over the day or night.
(Matthew 5, v 16) "Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and give glory to your father who is in heaven"
(Luke 11 v 34 to 36) "Your eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is sound, your whole body is full of light; but when it is not sound, your body is full of darkness. Therefore be careful lest the light in you be darkness."
So let us first take the light as the symbol of goodness and the darkness as the symbol of evil.
(John 3, vs 19 to 21) "And this is the judgment, that light has come into the world and men loved darkness rather than the light because their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light lest his deeds should be exposed. But everyone who does what is true comes to the light that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been wrought in God."
(John 8 v 12) "Again Jesus spoke to them and said.' I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."
(John 12 v 46) "I have come as light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness."
Thus Jesus spoke of the redemption of the wicked who turn from darkness into the light and remain in the light and this is available to anyone, no matter their past sins, errors or failures. Once in the light of Jesus and committed to Him, all past sins are forgiven. This is the beauty of the Christian faith. You cannot work your way into favour, it is a gift of God through the blood of Jesus.
(Acts 26 v 15 to 18) Paul is relating his conversion on the Damascus road to King Agrippa, when the light of the Lord shone on him and all that traveled with him . " And I said, 'Who are you lord?' And the Lord said, 'I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you to serve and bear witness to the things in which you have seen in me and to those things that I will appear to you and deliver you from the people and from the Gentiles - to whom I will send you to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'"
Note that Jesus was identifying those Christians who were being persecuted at the time, even by Paul you realise, as Himself and it was a very personal thing for Him.
Having thus seen the relationship between the concept of light and darkness, good and evil, the power of God and the power of Satan. Now we are in the position of understanding the parable of the Earth, the Sun and the Moon and their symbolism. First let us remind ourselves of our physical world.
The earth circles around the sun which is the centre of its world, giving light, heat, warmth and without which no life on earth could exist. The moon, on the other hand, gives only a false light which gives no warmth, no heat, no life and has the earth as the centre of its world. Both the sun and the moon have a gravitational pull on the earth and both appear, to us at least, to be about the same size.
So, taking the sun as the symbol of Jesus, the source of light, warmth, constant and life whereas the moon is the symbol of Satan, giving only a false light, disguising himself as a source of light, is not constant, has a pulling power of the seas etc of the earth as the sun does also and shines its brightest in the darkest night. The earth, of course, represents us who have to see the difference between the sun and the moon.
Both the sun and the moon have been worshiped as gods, partly because they appear to be the same size , yet the sun is 400 times further away from us and therefore the moon must be 400 times smaller. Yet when the moon comes between us and the sun, the eclipse no less, the moon can blot out the rays of the sun and turn that part of the earth into complete darkness. The irony of the eclipse is that it is only during the eclipse can we see the true complete stature of the sun. Only if you let Satan come between you and Jesus, you will be in complete darkness too!
Also the clouds can come between you and the sun, the clouds representing those things, like the third seed of the parable of the sower, that come between you and being a true Christian.
Please be aware that you must see references in their immediate context. You cannot apply, for example, every mention of the sun to goodness and Jesus. Remember the parable of the sower where the sun is the symbol of tribulation nor is every mention of the moon a symbol of evil. Use the context in which it is written to see the implication of the secondary meaning.

Thoughts on the one thousand year/day.

Most readers of prophecy of the Bible will be aware of the concept of taking a day as a year. This is especially those who read Daniel of course. However, this concept does not apply to Revelation as it puts the coming of the Lord Jesus out to several thousand years from now which it can't be.
So let's look at another year/day hitch, that of a day being seen as one thousand years.
(2 Peter 3, v 8) 'But, Beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as a day.'
Then we have, from Daniel, the concept of three and one half (which cuts the 7 day week by 2), a concept which is used many times in the Bible.
(Daniel 12, v 7) 'And I heard a man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven and swear by Him that lives for ever and ever that it shall be for a time, times and one half and when He shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.'
(Revelation 12, v 14) 'And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, times and half a time, from the face of the serpent.'
So we have the concept of a day being a day, a year and a thousand years. We shall look at what the Bible tells us of the past and apply the third concept to what we know has happened in the past, to see if we can know what will happen in the future.
We are told that the Earth has been here for around 6000 years so if we add the one thousand years of the reign of Jesus, we have a time (2000 years), 2 times (2000 years plus anther 2000 years) and half a time (One thousand years).
(Revelation 20, v 4) 'And I saw the thrones and they that sat upon them, and judgement was given unto them; and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness to Jesus, and for the word of God, and for which had not worshiped the beast , neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads not upon their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ one thousand years.'
So we have 3 x 2000 year blocks to investigate. Note that each block of 2000 years includes a covenant from God.
The first block of 2000 years is the time when mankind was allowed to reach out to the Creator in their own way, as they saw fit. So to Noah
(Genesis 9, v13) ' And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations. I did set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a token of the covenant between me and the earth.' This is a perpetual covenant with the earth and stays until the end of the time.
So God called Abram (Abraham)
(Genesis12, v 1 to 3) ' Now the Lord said unto Abram, "Get you our of your country and from your kindred and from your father's house, unto a land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation , and I will bless you and make your name great and you shall be a blessing; and I will bless you and curse him that curses you: and in you shall all families of the earth be blessed. and from your descendants." ' Now the covenant with Abraham and his seed was conditional on them keeping the covenant.
(Genesis 17, v 7 ) ' And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.' Yet the covenant had one major requirement. 'To be a God unto thee.' This was the one that they broke.
(John 8, v41,42) 'They said to Him" We were not born in fornication. We have one father, even God." Jesus said to them "If God were your father, you would love me for I proceeded and came from God. I came not of my own accord but He sent me ."
The purpose of Abram and his descendants was that the rest of the people of the world would see how they were blessed by the Creator and all want to join them. However, that system, just like the first 2000 years, did not work either.
(Hosea 9, v 17) 'My God will cast them away, because they did not hearken unto Him: and they shall be wanderers among the nations.'
Just to remember
(Matthew 11, 11 - 15) ' "Truly, I say to you, among those born of women, there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence and men of violence take it by force. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John; and if you are willing to accept it,he is Elijah who is to come. He who has ears to hear, let him hear." '
To the listening Pharisees and chief priests, Jesus told them a parable about a landowner who let out a vineyard to tenants who, in turn, refused to pay the rent when it was due, beat the landlord's representatives and then killed his son outside the vineyard, in the hope that they would inherit the vineyard as well. Jesus then asked his audience
(Matthew 21, 40 - 45) '"When the lord of the vineyard comes, what will he do to the tenants?" They said to Him," He will miserably destroy those wicked men and let out his vineyard to other tenants who will give the fruits in their season." Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the scriptures, 'The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner. This is the Lord's doing and it is marvelous in our eyes? Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God shall be taken from you , and given to a nation who will bring forth the fruits thereof. And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken; but on whom it shall fall, it will grind him to powder" And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard His parable, they understood that He spoke of them.'
Those who have the mind to understand, let them understand.
Then came Jesus and the clock was stopped for His time on earth. In reality Jesus died about AD29.
So began the last block of 2000 years. Jesus is the new covenant, in his own blood. Thus the disciples of Jesus were to live as Jesus commanded them and all the other people on the earth would see how that worked out for them that called themselves 'Christian' and would want to join them. However, just like the humans in the two previous blocks failed to live up to what was required of them, so those of this block have failed.. Now it must be remembered that, just as in the other blocks, there were those who did live up to the requirements of how they were supposed to relate to God the Creator but, as in the parables of the sower and the weeds in the field, Satan got in also and promised humans all sorts of worldly pleasures and riches so that they would forget that they were being prepared for a life eternal with their loving Creator and take the pleasures that were at hand, ignoring the consequences. The problem with this parable is that the time of the end of the last 2000 year block is becoming rather near and all the problems that are associated with the end of this block, the coming of the anti-Christ for example, the mark of the beast and all the other aspect as detailed in the book of Revelation, together with the words of Jesus and many others written in the Bible, are , as they say, at hand.
(Luke 17, 26 to 29 and 32) And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be in the days of the Son of Man. They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted , they built; But the same day that Lot left Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so shall it be when the Son of Man is revealed. Remember Lot's wife.
Thinking of Lot.
(Romans 1, v 20 to 32) 'For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse. Because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools. and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and to four footed beasts and to creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to the dishonour their own bodies between themselves; who changed the truth of God into a lie and worshiped the creature more than the Creator who is blessed forever, amen. For this reason God gave them up unto vile affections, for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature; and likewise also the men did give up the natural use of a woman, burned in their lust toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them over to a base mind and to improper conduct. They are filled with all manner of wickedness, evil, covetousness, , malice. Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity, they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Though they know God's decree that those who do such things deserve to die, they not only do them but approve those who practice them.'
That sums up the present world fairly well .
